Apparently some drunk incompetent fans thought Kanye was playing some unreleased music during a DJ set at?Le Baron London. Well before everyone jumps up and down, the track was just Cassie's "King Of Hearts." Hey Rihanna you should be upset they confused you. Check out DJ Yeezy World Peace on the 1's and 2's.

Samsung May Offer "Value Pack" Instead of Ice Cream Sandwich in Galaxy Devices

Samsung originally said it was not going to update the Galaxy S and the original Galaxy Tab to Ice Cream Sandwich due to its TouchWiz user interface. This did not go over well with customers at all. Their reactions caused Samsung to reconsider its stance on updating the two devices. Just as soon as that glimmer of hope appeared, a new report is?threatening?to eliminate an authentic ICS experience on both devices....

Winning Our Future Newt Gingrich Ad: GOP Presidential Candidate Touted As 'The Conservative Choice'

Over the course of his 2012 campaign for president, Newt Gingrich has encountered his share of criticism from conservatives. With the former frontrunner lagging in recent Iowa polls, one super PAC is coming to his defense in crunch time.

Winning Our Future unveiled its first Iowa television ad on Wednesday, a spot that denounces the spending tactics of Mitt Romney, Rick Perry, and other competing candidates. The 30-second ad casts Gingrich as a "principled conservative" and cautions against letting "the liberal Republican establishment pick our candidate."

Is Morocco really ready for a mega mall? (AP)

CASABLANCA, Morocco ? Inaugurated by popstar Jennifer Lopez in front of the cream of Moroccan society, Casablanca's first mega mall, complete with two-story-high aquarium, is dripping with glamour and luxury.

While developers describe it as a step bringing Morocco closer to the ranks of the developed world, detractors worry that it is a vanity project that a country teetering on the edge of an economic crisis can ill afford.

Morocco at first seems a curious choice for what its developers are billing as the biggest mall in Africa. It already has world-renowned traditional bazaars featuring exquisite ceramics and rugs that draw tourists from across the globe.

The North African kingdom of 32 million is home to the largest income inequalities in the Arab world ? and now hosts Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior and Ralph Lauren boutiques and department store Galeries Lafayette in the new mall, a futuristic, bulbous silver structure perched on Morocco's coast overlooking the crashing waves of the Atlantic.

It is a stark symbol of the contrasts of a country with 8.5 million people in poverty that ranks 130 out of 186 on the U.N.'s human development index, but will still host acts like Shakira and Kanye West for a summer concert series.

The 20-minute coastal drive from downtown Casablanca ? Morocco's largest city ? to the mall showcases the complexity of the country, with slums hidden from sight by high walls, construction areas for new shopping centers and finally the villas and night clubs of the wealthy.

"It is a great honor for Morocco to have a project of such dimensions," said Salwa Akhannouch, head of the Aksal group and the driving force behind the mall, at its opening this month.

Most Moroccans will not be shopping at the mall.

The country has some of the lowest literacy and highest unemployment rates and the highest income disparity in the Middle East and North Africa, according to the Gini coefficient, a statistical tool used by economists to measure the inequality of distribution in a country. The disparity has been growing every year.

Crowds packed the mall in the weeks after it opened, ambling through sunlit galleries and gazing at the aquarium and the 350 stores on offer. Periodically, colorfully dressed performers, some from as far away as Eastern Europe, would burst into enthusiastic dance routines to the accompaniment of loud drums.

There were few shopping bags in sight, however, and most seemed just curious to finally see this much-talked-about monument to shopping that has been four years and $260 million in the making.

"There is a big gulf between the rich and the poor and the rich just seem to be getting richer and the poor, poorer _the mall is a symbol of that," said Hassan Ali, a 45-year-old shopkeeper selling handtooled leather jackets in Casablanca's modest old quarter.

Tourism is a vital part of the mall's plan, according to its secretary general, Jenane Laghrar, who anticipates 20 percent of its estimated 12 million annual visitors will come from abroad. She said sales for the first week were on target.

"When you enter the mall, you see Gucci and Dior, but don't forget you have the largest content in Africa ? at the same time you have more affordable brands," she said.

There is also an aspiring middle class that wants to be able to buy these luxury products, she added.

The hope is also that European tourists will add to their usual itinerary of beaches and the exotic cities of Fez and Marrakech, a trip to Casablanca ? and the mall.

Laghrar said they are especially hoping to attract visitors from the rest of Africa who pass through Casablanca airport on their way to Europe.

For now, however, visitors from Africa make up less than 5 percent of Morocco's tourists, with the vast majority still from Europe.

This could well be a problem as the European continent sinks into crisis, said economist Najib Akesbi, and in fact Europe's woes pose a dilemma for the Moroccan economy as a whole, which is deeply intertwined with its neighbors across the Mediterranean.

Morocco's main sources of hard currency, including foreign investment, tourism and remittances from its workers abroad, overwhelmingly come from Europe. On Dec. 20, the government reduced growth projections for 2012 by half a percentage point in response to Europe's crisis.

"The world is entering a period of crisis, the next four or five years are not going to be years of prosperity," warned Akesbi, who teaches at the Hassan II Institute for Agronomy in the capital Rabat.

For him the Morocco Mall is part of a bet Morocco is making that it can become a kind of Dubai for the western Mediterranean, attracting consumers from across Africa and Europe to make up for weak local demand.

"It is a bit of a fragile model," he said. "The success depends less on durable local demand than betting on foreign demand."

The mall's developers point to Morocco's consistent growth of between 4 and 5 percent for the past few years as a sign that the economy can support this kind of luxury shopping.

Those growth figures, however, are not producing jobs, and unemployment overall is at least 8 percent, while for those under 34 it is a staggering 30 percent.

Pro-democracy demonstrations that rose up in Morocco earlier this year have faded away, but there are still regular protests by the millions of unemployed university graduates across the country, frustrated at their prospects.

Investment has not been in sectors like industry that produce a lot of jobs, rather in retail, services and infrastructure that have not been creating the employment the nation needs, said Akesbi.

And the economy is still at the whim of the annual agricultural harvest. Part of the reason for the country's steady growth recently has been good weather.

"Here we are in 2011 and the economy is still largely determined by the sky," said Akesbi. Even though only 25 percent of the economy relies on agriculture, it employs 40 percent of the work force and a bad harvest can hurt other sectors.

The government budget is also dangerously overstretched, after it increased food subsidies and raise government salaries in a bid to stave off the anti-government unrest sweeping the Arab world.

The Morocco Mall project was conceived in the headier days of the mid-2000s when it was decided that what the country needed was more shopping centers.

While Europe falters, the wealthy oil states of the Gulf are playing a role in building a more consumerist Morocco.

Half the funding for Morocco Mall comes from the Saudi Al-Jedaie Group which has built malls across Saudi Arabia and two new initiatives looks set to shower Morocco with Gulf money.

PS Vita gets second firmware update, nixes software bugs

There's not many things worse than when your new imported tech toy is hobbled by teething issues. Just over a week since its launch and Sony's great portable hope has been gifted its second firmware update. Version 1.51 can be grabbed through your PC, PS3 or the Vita itself and promises to fix issues with "game progress" -- mentioning launch title Dynasty Warriors: Next in particular. However, gamers have already figured out that playing through the title offline side-steps the software hiccups that this patch hopes to remedy. Early adopters can hit up the system update option to ensure their machines remain in peak condition or hit up the source for the PC link.

[Thanks Adam]

China and Argentina ratify crossed support for Taiwan and Falklands claims

Jiang Shusheng made the statement during a meeting with the head of Argentina?s Lower House Julian Dominguez who also underlined the recent Mercosur solidarity support to Argentina?s request in the Falklands/Malvinas dispute.

The Chinese top official originally arrived in Buenos Aires as a special envoy from President Hu Jintao to President Cristina Fernandez swearing in ceremony last December 10.

?China will continue to support the Argentine claim of sovereignty over the Islas Malvinas?, said Jiang Shusheng who added that ?solidarity with Argentina on the Malvinas issue is an invariable position of China?s foreign policy?.

Jiang Shusheng also praised Argentina for its role as the rotating president of the Group of 77 of non aligned countries saying ?Argentina worked for world integration and peace?.

The Chinese official called for the governments of Argentina and UK to resume ?Malvinas negotiations? thus complying with the principles and objectives of the UN Charter and the General Assembly resolutions, with the purpose of finding a peaceful solution to the sovereignty dispute?.

China has long supported Argentina?s claim over the Malvinas Islands, the same way that Buenos Aires acknowledges the principle of one China regarding the dispute with the island of Taiwan identified as the Republic of China.

Lawmaker (and former Agriculture minister) Dom?nguez said that the Argentine government ?has complied with all the dialogue requests regarding the Malvinas issue as mandated by the UN resolutions because that is the essence of the democratic system?.

?In response to the prudent and intelligent request from our President (Cristina Fernandez), during the last as well as in previous Mercosur meetings, for solidarity in support of our sovereignty rights over the Malvinas and other South Atlantic Islands, there has been an immediate and positive reply to that request from member countries?, said Dominguez.

?We will continue upholding firmly our dialogue vocation with Great Britain before international bodies, hoping this happens as soon as possible? pointed out the Argentine lawmaker who concluded stating Argentina wants the sovereignty dispute to be acknowledged.

?We categorically reject the standing political, diplomatic and an even military pressure UK has being doing with its representatives through the media, which are in the fringe of aggression, repudiated by all countries living in democracy?.

Rose Parade floats go through a dry period

SANY0331 copy
When Rose Parade float companies begin decorating, there?s nary a rose in sight.?

Why? Because float decoration is in effect a two-stage process. First come the materials that will not wilt or die. They include seeds, beans, seaweed, bark, straw flowers and the like.?

At Phoenix Decorating?s Rosemont Pavilion, one of two facilities the company maintains in Pasadena, dry decoration is nearly complete. Volunteers led by crew chiefs and their assistants have been at it since early December.

Each float has a master book of directions written by Phoenix floral director Lyn Lofthouse indicating the color, kind and location of the materials. For a float like the one sponsored this year by Trader Joe?s, the directions can get complicated.

?Everything on that float has some kind of specialized detail. There are cans" of corn and other products found at Trader Joe?s "that are heavily detailed,? Lofthouse said. There are dry materials over many sections of the float and ?you just don?t slop it up there. There?s a direction to make it look sharp and clean.?

Some parts of the float are detailed enough to require the placement of individual seeds or beans one at a time.

This is where decorating crew chiefs and their assistants come to center stage. Some volunteers are repeat performers, but many are first-timers who need more direction.?

The Trader Joe?s crew chief, Nan Koupal-Smith, has been decorating the store?s floats for 10 years and fully understands the importance of getting small bits in the right place in the right way. ?The placement of detailed pieces of material gives the surface a multi-dimensional look rather than a flat surface look,? said Koupal-Smith. Using single grains makes the float "pop so you can see the three dimensions. That?s what you want to see when you?re looking at it.?

Decorators place the dry material after applying glue to the surface. The white glue is similar to Elmer?s but a bit thicker.

And when it comes to the actual application, Koupal-Smith said, technique is a matter of individual preference and the material in question. ?Some people use brushes, some people use sponges; it depends on how big the surface is. I use my hand. I?ve done it so long I can?t use a sponge.?

The importance of leadership on the decorating floor in finishing floats is not lost on Lofthouse.?I can?t do 22 floats by myself," she said. "So crew chiefs and assistants are an important part for me.?

And whence the army of volunteers so essential to finishing the floats? Phoenix gets them through its website and civic and other groups. Float sponsor employees are another source.

Many are longtime participants who have developed a true team sense with others on their crews. ?We look forward to it and seeing everybody because we only see them once a year,? said Pasadena resident Cheryl Graffi, who has decorated floats for 25 years, all of them as a member of Koupal-Smith?s team.?

For first-timer Vicki Robinson, one of the service members from the Los Angeles Air Force Base working on floats this year, it is a different reason. ?I just wanted to be part of it. I thought it would be fun, but I didn?t know what to expect. There?s real excitement here.?

Cleburne family killed in Mexico robbery spree

by JONATHAN BETZ

WFAA

Updated today at 2:29 PM

CLEBURNE ? A Cleburne mother and two daughters have been killed in a series of attacks on buses in northern Mexico. Maria Hartsell, 39, and her daughters Karla Hartsell, 19, and Cristina Hartsell, 13, were among the seven people who lost their lives.

?I can?t sleep at night,? said Hartsell?s mother-in-law Margaret Schneider of Cleburne. ?I shut my eyes and I see them.?

Schneider says Hartsell ? who is a U.S. citizen ? was traveling with her four children to visit family members for the holidays in the region known as Huasteca. A group of five gunmen attacked three buses in Mexico?s Gulf Coast state of Veracruz on Thursday in what authorities described as a violent robbery spree.

Soldiers apparently killed the gunmen later.

Schneider said Hartsell?s other daughter Angie was also shot, but her condition is unknown. She said another grandchild, Mike Hartsell, 10, survived, but told her he watched the gunmen murder his mother and sister after killing the bus driver.

?Little Mike told me? they turned around and came back and shot her (his mother) in the head with the gun and they shot Karla,? Schneider said. ?He said he knew that his mom and Karla were dead.?

Schneider said Hartsell worked in the cafeteria at Cleburne?s Santa Fe Elementary School.

The U.S. Consulate has urged Americans to ?exercise caution? when traveling to Veracruz, and to ?avoid intercity road travel at night.?

While the specific area where the Thursday attacks occurred is not frequented by foreign travelers, other parts of the Huasteca? ? a hilly, verdant area on the Gulf coast? ? are popular among Mexican tourists and some foreigners.

The attack occurred near the border with the state of Tamaulipas, an area that has been the scene of bloody battles between the Zetas and Gulf drug cartels. According to some estimates, more than 40,000 people have been killed over the past five years in Mexico?s ongoing drug war.

Schneider said she begged her daughter-in-law not to take the trip.

?I told her not to go to Mexico. I just kept repeating it,? Schneider said. ?Why did they have to lose their life? It?s just senseless.?

Gibbs compounds Arsenal's defensive troubles

Associated Press Sports

updated 9:21 a.m. ET Dec. 23, 2011

LONDON (AP) -Arsenal's defensive troubles have deepened after Kieran Gibbs was ruled out for another month following surgery on his left groin.

The England left back has been out of action since October after having surgery to remove a hernia, but it had been hoped he would be back this week.

Defenders Johan Djourou, Andre Santos, Carl Jenkinson and Bacary Sagna are already out for the Gunners.

Those injuries have forced manager Arsene Wenger to field center backs Thomas Vermaelen and Laurent Koscielny at fullback.

Looking ahead to the January transfer window, Wenger says he will sign a fullback "if there is a good opportunity."

Arsenal is fifth in the Premier League, 12 points behind leader Manchester City.

Galaxy Nexus early adopters report issues with signal, touchscreen (Yahoo! News)

The new flagship Android superphone stumbles out of the gate

While there are several smartphone manufacturers that use Google's?Android operating system, the Nexus line is often considered the cream of the crop. The Nexus line is the only series of handsets designed with the help of Google, and therefore the phone are always the first to get updates to the OS. The new Samsung?Galaxy Nexus debuted on December 17, and almost immediately customers began to report issues with some of the phone's key features.

Signal strength
The most widespread problem deals with the phone's less-than-impressive signal strength. Numerous customers are reporting that their shiny new smartphones simply can't get a decent?3G or 4G connection. The outcry has become so broad that Verizon?issued a statement letting new Nexus owners know that a fix is on the way, though no date has been revealed for when the update will go live.

Finicky Face Unlock
But it's not just signal strength that has new Nexus owners up in arms: it appears that Face Unlock ? a marquee feature of the brand new?Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system ? isn't exactly perfect. In fact, our own testing confirmed that the new facial recognition technology, which unlocks your phone without so much as a tap, was only accurate about 50% of the time. The feature requires almost perfect lighting and a direct view of your face to even have a chance of unlocking your phone. If the device is even slightly askew, it tends to default to the secondary security function.

Touchy touchscreen
A lesser-reported issue ? and one that we weren't able to produce on our own Galaxy Nexus ? has to do with a faulty touchscreen. Several users?report that their device's massive 4.65" multi-touch display fails to detect tactile input in some apps and games. Certain apps appear to be affected more than others:?the games?Heavy Gunner 3D,?Pew Pew 2,?ShadowGun and?Gun Bros. are confirmed as having the bug.?The issue can usually be corrected by exiting the offending app and then locking and unlocking the device; however, re-opening an app that has the bug will cause the problem to resurface.

Needless to say, some customers aren't entirely pleased with their new purchase, and while the majority ? if not all ? of these problems can likely be solved through a free, over-the-air software update, Android early adopters are feeling the sting. If you're one of the unlucky few experiencing a less-than-satisfactory introduction to your new?Galaxy Nexus, you can either wait until a fix appears, exchange it via your carrier's return policy (most are 30-day), or jump ship entirely ? though the latter option?will definitely cost you.

Dogs of war also suffer from emotional stress (Reuters)

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) ? As U.S. troops return from Iraq and Afghanistan, many are coming home with mental and emotional damage brought on by war -- and not just the human soldiers.

Crews at Lackland Air Force Base, where all of the military's working dogs are trained, say they are beginning to notice post-traumatic stress disorder in dogs as well.

"Where they were once very outgoing and very sure of their work, now they want to avoid contact," said Colonel Kelly Mann, a veterinarian who runs the Holland Working Dog Hospital at Lackland, which treats ailments and diseases affecting America's four-legged service members.

Canine PTSD symptoms are very similar to symptoms humans experience, he said, including startled reaction to loud noises, panic attacks, sleep problems and loss of social ability.

Mann said it's not surprising that dogs would suffer from PTSD just like humans.

"They work in tandem with our service members, so they are exposed to the same environmental problems and challenges," he told Reuters on Friday.

Dogs are trained to sniff out improvised explosive devices and insurgent weapons caches, track and spot insurgent troops, search for U.S. soldiers missing from their units, and protect their handlers, as well as perform traditional sentry duty.

About 500 military working dogs are produced at Lackland's kennel each year. Most are Labradors, but other breeds like Belgian Malinois are also used.

"These animals are part of our Air Force family, and we feel they deserve the finest treatment possible for the conditions they suffered in combat," said Gerry Proctor of the 37th Training Wing at Lackland.

"They are also veterans, and we are committed to providing them with the same care all U.S. veterans receive."

Everything from a little more play time and down time to more love from humans can help working dogs suffering from PTSD, Mann said. But sometimes, the working dogs are prescribed anti-anxiety medications like Xanax that are given to human PTSD patients, he said.

"Because these dogs mean so much to the handlers, to the units they support, that's why we give them this level of veterinary care," he said.

About 5 percent of working dogs returning from the war zones are diagnosed with PTSD, he said.

Crystal Sugar CEO Likens Contract to Cancer | AFL-CIO NOW BLOG

?

by Barbara Doherty, Nov 30, 2011

Relations between management and the 1,300 locked-out workers at American Crystal Sugar Co. reached a new low this week, as recordings were made public of company CEO David Berg likening the workers and their contract to a cancerous tumor.

Speaking to shareholders in North Dakota on Nov. 7, Berg told the story of a friend who had a massive cancerous tumor removed. ?He was sick for a long time,? said Berg.

We can?t let a labor contract make us sick forever and ever and ever. We have to treat the disease and that?s what we?re doing here.

?Berg later repeated his cancer analogy, saying,

At some point that tumor?s got to come out. That?s what we?re doing.

Listen to some of Berg?s comments here.

Workers responded to Berg?s remarks with outrage. Sarah Gust, a 40-year employee at American Crystal, remarked,

The fact that Dave Berg would refer to our union, our contract, as a cancerous tumor is deeply offensive to me and many of my co-workers. Some of us have had cancer or have lost loved ones to cancer. It?s a tragic, devastating disease. And that?s how Crystal Sugar management sees our union. I tell you, this just shows how much respect Dave Berg and the management have for us workers.

Workers at American Crystal in Minnesota, North Dakota and Iowa have been out of work since management imposed a lockout on Aug. 1, after workers rejected the company?s final contract offer by a more than nine-to-one margin. The company hired replacement workers and says it is moving to the next phase of its ?contingency plan? by offering wages significantly below those of locked-out workers.?The employees are members of seven locals of the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers (BCTGM).

?We?ve seen Dave Berg?s true colors. He is determined to treat contract negotiations as a disease, a tumor to be removed,? said John Riskey, president of BCTGM Local 167G.

We?ve said from the start that we want to negotiate, as long as management comes to the table with reasonable proposals, and not the same take-it-or-leave-it ultimatums.

Workers and the union plan to hold?a press conference Dec. 1 to coincide with the company?s annual meeting and to meet with Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton on Saturday.

You also can contribute to the Sugar Beet Workers fund to help workers during the lockout. Make checks out to: Minnesota AFL-CIO, 175 Aurora Ave., St. Paul, MN 55103. In the memo line, print ?BCTGM Lockout 2011.?
