43 courses developed by AHIMA now available via the convenient, user-friendly NetLearning Learning Management System

Clifton Park, NY, March 27, 2012 ? NetLearning, part of Cengage Learning and a leading provider of online courses and eLearning software for healthcare workers and hospital administrators, today announced a new agreement with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), the leading organization for health information management professionals, to provide healthcare information-minded clinicians and staffs with access to 43 new e-learning courses. Authored and developed by AHIMA experts, these courses will be available through the award-winning ?NetLearning learning management system (LMS).

Through this new agreement, NetLearning will offer AHIMA training and continuing education courses that cover topics such as ICD-10, clinical documentation improvement and electronic health records. Among the 43 new courses, NetLearning will distribute 23 courses on ICD-10, a medical coding classification system recently mandated for use in the United States, and 11 courses on electronic health records.? Both represent major shifts in how healthcare will be managed moving forward in the United States. Over the next several years, all hospitals will be required to transition to the ICD-10 classification system, creating a need for training courses such as these from AHIMA and NetLearning.

In addition to the training and continuing education courses, NetLearning will also offer AHIMA exam preparation materials including the Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) Exam Prep Series, Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) Exam Prep Series and the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) Exam Prep Series. These web-based courses will help to prepare professionals for their certification exams using self-paced lessons, to thoroughly review and reinforce knowledge of exam content.

?We are excited to offer these timely and important courses from AHIMA to our customers throughout the U.S. healthcare system,? said Will Passano, vice president, NetLearning. ?The cost of implementing ICD-10 changes will be an enormous expense for hospitals ? estimated to cost the healthcare system up to $8 billion, with staff training alone costing upwards of $900 million. We are happy to have the opportunity to distribute this online education from AHIMA to help alleviate some of these costs. Using these courses through the NetLearning LMS enables training to be both convenient and readily-accessible, keeping in line with the needs of today?s fast-paced healthcare environment.?

?Education in the HIM profession is very important and essential to ensure that we have highly-trained professionals to meet the growing demands of our industry,? said AHIMA CEO Lynne Thomas Gordon, MBA, RHIA, FACHE.? ?We are excited to be collaborating with NetLearning to provide resources and tools that can be utilized to enhance HIM in practice to improve patient care and deliver quality operational outcomes.?

?This collaboration with AHIMA further proves NetLearning?s mission to serve as a trusted partner to healthcare institutions, as many of them are working to become compliant with new standards in the industry,? said Michelle Leavitt, director, product strategy, NetLearning. ?These courses will be fully integrated with the technologically-advanced NetLearning LMS and available to more customers than ever through NetLearning Connect!, allowing all institutions the opportunity to access these new courses, in addition to NetLearning?s entire catalog of courseware, regardless of LMS choice.?

The NetLearning LMS, the company?s leading product, is a flexible system to manage the education, licensure, competency assessment and professional development of employees in the healthcare industry. The product was designed and refined by healthcare professionals in the field and, unlike many other systems, offers unique, healthcare-specific capabilities ? including robust license and certification management, tools to track license and certification expirations and renewals, and reports designed to produce data required for the Joint Commission surveys, Magnet Recognition Program applications and state Boards of Nursing, among other features. Additionally, NetLearning also makes their catalog of leading healthcare content available to organizations working with other systems through NetLearning Connect!, a product that links any SCORM 1.2-conformant LMS with NetLearning?s catalog of healthcare e-learning courseware.

NetLearning?s mission is to drive improvements in the safety and quality of patient care by offering a comprehensive suite of training and education solutions for healthcare organizations.?
